Description
The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2022 has been extremely difficult on all of us, and those impacted to a great extent are teachers and coaches. These dedicated professionals work hard to ensure their students and players receive the educations they deserve. They do this through their application of leadership, because all teachers and coaches are leaders in the middle. The middle is where the work takes place in any organization, and all teachers and coaches are right there.
Paying homage to them and their craft, this book will show through examples, storytelling and testimonials, why teachers and coaches are leaders. Mitch Boling does this by drawing on his experience as a former aircraft maintenance instructor in the U.S. Air Force, as well as his time supporting the instruction of fighter pilots. This book celebrates the fact that all teachers and coaches are leaders, and that we should learn from them by applying their leadership practices to our own professions.
A Quick Read
This book is a collection of ten short stories that outline the leadership characteristics of those in teaching and coaching professions. Teachers and coaches are very special people. They take it upon themselves to ensure their students or players are successful. This takes leadership, and as we all should know, teachers and coaches are leaders, plain and simple. Their efforts are honored with this book.

I have been involved with leadership and training for over 35 years and two absolute truths are that Good Leaders Are Always Learning and Great Leaders Are Always Returning; giving back and mentoring others. Mitchell Boling has successfully captured these truths in his book, Leading From The Middle, Coaches & Teachers. This book is Boling’s exciting follow up to his first book, Leadership: A View from the Middle – Lessons from an Aircraft Maintainer.
Immediately from the start Boling drops you into a dogfight and the fast pace world of US Air Force fighter pilot training. Then we’re given a tour of various coaches and teachers from the US Air Force to the National Football League. Boling discusses the challenges with reluctant students as well as the various traits of a leader whose in the middle of an organization.
Every successful leader is not only a lifelong learner, but can’t help also giving back by being a coach, mentor, and instructor and adding value to others. If you are a leader, then you need to read this book. It will add value to your life and to those you lead.

Whether it’s coaches teaching players, teachers educating students, or drill instructors training soldiers, one thing is for certain: people on the frontlines of leadership matter. Mitch Boling’s book, Leading from the Middle, shows exactly why our most unsung leaders matter so much. Why? They affect so many and often affect the most impressionable. I highly recommend this great read. Well done!

Boling scored a touchdown with this book. I really enjoyed the chapter on Leadership Theories. As a department lead for my school, it helped me understand the various leadership styles that I see in myself, my colleagues, and administrators. I also enjoyed his take on the GAS Factor! Every teacher I know has the GAS Factor! I will forgive him for being a Seahawks fan though. Keep Pounding!
